Illustrative cross section. Construction layers listed below.

WDZ-YJY takes a standard XLPE power cable and replaces the PVC bedding and sheath with halogen-free polyolefin compounds. The reason is what happens once a fire starts: PVC releases hydrogen chloride that forms hydrochloric acid on contact with water vapour, attacking switchgear, busbars and concrete, while its smoke cuts visibility in an escape route within a minute. A halogen-free sheath evolves less than 5 mg/g of acid gas and holds smoke transmittance above 60% in the same test.

The electrical design is untouched. XLPE insulation at 90 °C continuous and 250 °C short-circuit means the ampacity tables an engineer already works from still apply, and conductor, screen and armouring options are identical to YJV. Voltcore supplies WDZ-YJY at 0.6/1 kV with flame-retardant class A, B, C or D to GB/T 19666 and bunched verification to IEC 60332-3, quoting measured smoke and acidity figures rather than simply repeating the pass limit.

Engineering characteristics

  • XLPE insulation at 90 °C continuous and 250 °C short-circuit for 5 s, so ampacity tables for YJV apply without derating.
  • Halogen-free sheath measured at not more than 5 mg/g acid gas to IEC 60754-1 against a 0.5% pass limit.
  • Smoke density to IEC 61034-2 holds light transmittance at 60% or higher, roughly three times the visibility left by PVC sheathing.
  • Gas acidity to IEC 60754-2: pH not below 4.3 and conductivity not above 10 µS/mm, protecting switchgear after exposure.
  • Flame retardance offered in class A, B, C or D to GB/T 19666 with bunched verification to IEC 60332-3-22, -23 or -24.
  • Class 2 copper to IEC 60228: 4.61 Ω/km maximum at 4 mm² falling to 0.153 Ω/km at 120 mm², measured at 20 °C.
  • Sheath compound contains no lead or cadmium and meets RoHS and REACH substance restrictions.

Typical applications

  • Underground metro stations, platform and tunnel services
  • Hospitals, schools and airports where evacuation takes time
  • High-rise residential and commercial risers and escape corridors
  • Data centres, telecom exchanges and control rooms holding sensitive electronics
  • Shopping centres, theatres and stadium public areas
  • Industrial switchrooms and cable basements with poor ventilation

Ordering options

  • WDZ-YJY23 — steel tape armoured for direct burial and outdoor routes

WDZ-YJY LSZH Power Cable — frequently asked questions

Is LSZH cable the same as flame retardant cable?

No. LSZH describes combustion products — halogen acid gas to IEC 60754 and smoke density to IEC 61034. Flame retardance is a separate test to IEC 60332. A halogen-free sheath can still propagate flame along a bundle if the compound is not formulated to stop it, so name both in the specification: halogen-free plus the IEC 60332-3 category you need.

Where does the 60% smoke transmittance figure come from?

IEC 61034-2 burns a sample in a 3 m cube and measures how much light reaches the opposite wall. PVC-sheathed cable typically leaves 10–25% transmittance; a halogen-free compound loaded with aluminium hydroxide reaches 60% or more. The difference is the visibility remaining in a corridor, which is why tunnels and metro projects set the number rather than the word low smoke.

Does an LSZH cable have to be derated compared with PVC cable?

No. Conductor size, insulation thickness and the 90 °C conductor rating are identical to YJV, so current-carrying capacity is unchanged. The sheath is marginally thicker, giving about 3–5% more overall diameter and weight; bending radius stays at 15 × OD unarmoured and 12 × OD armoured. Only the pull-through friction changes, because halogen-free sheaths are less slippery in conduit.

Can WDZ-YJY be installed outdoors or buried?

The standard grey sheath is for indoor and ducted use; outdoor exposure needs the UV-stabilised black version, and direct burial needs armouring. Voltcore supplies WDZ-YJY23 with double steel tape for burial and WDZ-YJY33 for vertical shafts where the cable carries its own weight, both on the same halogen-free compound platform.
