ZH-BYJ-450/750V
HFFR / ZH Series Halogen Free Flame Retardant Building Cable
Single-core building wire and 0.6/1 kV power cable on one halogen-free compound platform.
The ZH series covers the everyday wiring layer of a building: 450/750 V single-core wire for conduit and trunking, and 0.6/1 kV multi-core cable for sub-mains. Insulation is cross-linked polyolefin rather than PVC, rated 90 °C continuous with a 125 °C grade for hot ceiling voids and luminaire drops, and the sheath is a halogen-free flame-retardant compound that clears IEC 60332-1 on a single sample and IEC 60332-3 when bunched.
Conductor form decides how the wire installs. Voltcore supplies Class 1 solid for conduit work where the wire is pushed through, and Class 2 or Class 5 stranded where it is pulled around bends or terminated into spring-cage terminals. Sizes run from 1.5 mm² to 630 mm² in the same colour set as PVC building wire, so an existing lighting and power schedule transfers across without re-approval when a project moves to halogen-free.

Engineering characteristics
- Cross-linked polyolefin insulation rated 90 °C, with a 125 °C grade for luminaire drops and hot ceiling voids.
- Halogen-free compound gives not more than 5 mg/g acid gas to IEC 60754-1 and pH not below 4.3 to IEC 60754-2.
- Single-core wire clears IEC 60332-1 with char length well inside the 50 mm limit measured from the lower edge of the sample.
- Same colour set and size range as PVC building wire, so a lighting and power schedule transfers without re-approval.
- Class 1 solid conductors push cleanly through conduit; Class 5 stranded suits spring-cage terminals and tight bends.
- Smoke output well below PVC to IEC 61034-2, which decides the specification in wards, classrooms and corridors.
- Insulation resistance at 90 °C sits an order of magnitude above the minimum, giving margin on long final circuits.
Typical applications
- Lighting and small power final circuits in hospitals, schools and hotels
- Conduit and trunking wiring in high-rise residential towers
- Luminaire and emergency fitting drops where ceiling voids run hot

HFFR / ZH Halogen Free Building Cable — frequently asked questions
Is ZH the same marking as WDZ?
Both point at halogen-free flame-retardant compounds, but they are used differently. ZH is the marking for building wire and cable under the flame-retardant series; WDZ adds the explicit low-smoke declaration and is used on power cable. Confirm the test standard cited on the datasheet — IEC 60754-1 for acid gas, IEC 61034-2 for smoke — rather than relying on the prefix.
Can ZH-BYJ share a conduit with existing PVC wire?
Physically yes: outside diameters match PVC wire within normal tolerance, so conduit fill is unchanged. Electrically, each circuit keeps its own conductor temperature rating, so the 70 °C PVC circuits and the 90 °C XLPO circuits are rated separately. Apply the normal grouping derating for the number of circuits in the conduit, and check the total fill against the wiring rules.
Does the halogen-free insulation tolerate termination heat?
Cross-linked polyolefin does not melt like PVC, so ferrule crimping and normal termination practice are unaffected, and the 90 °C or 125 °C rating covers hot accessories. Avoid direct flame or prolonged contact with a soldering iron, since the compound will char rather than flow. No special tools are needed beyond those used for XLPE cable.
What bending radius applies to 1.5 mm² and 2.5 mm² wire?
Six times overall diameter, which is about 17 mm at 1.5 mm² and 20 mm at 2.5 mm². In practice the conduit bend radius governs, and conduit is rarely bent tighter than that. The figure matters for tray and back-box work, where a tighter loop can leave the insulation under permanent stress at the terminal.
