Underground mining cable is selected on mechanical duty first. A trailing cable behind a shearer is dragged over broken rock, pulled under machinery, wound onto a reel under tension and flexed hundreds of times a shift; its conductor is the last thing to fail. What ends service is sheath tear, crushed cores at a tight bend, strand fatigue where the cable enters a gland, or a sheath swollen by hydraulic oil and cutting emulsion. Conductivity is a solved problem at these sizes.
The Chinese coal industry standard MT 818 sets the voltage grades, construction and dimensions for mine cable, and MT 386 sets the flame propagation and antistatic requirements that let a cable be used in a gassy atmosphere. Voltage grades run 0.38/0.66 kV, 0.66/1.14 kV, 1.9/3.3 kV and above. Voltcore builds to MT 818 and supplies the measured dimensions, sheath compound identification and test file with each quotation so a mine engineer can verify the construction before the cable goes underground.

MYP-0.66/1.14kV
Built to be dragged over rock: fine-strand conductor, EPR insulation and a tear-resistant rubber sheath.
MCPT-1.9/3.3kV
Power, earth, pilot and control cores in one screened assembly sized for the shearer's duty cycle.
A trailing cable runs at current densities well inside what copper can carry, because the cross-section is set by voltage drop over a long face and by mechanical strength. The failures that stop production are physical: a sheath torn on a rock edge, cores crushed where the cable bends over a sheave tighter than its permitted radius, or strands broken at the point where the cable is clamped into a coupler.
Specify the duty, not just the cable type. Give the reel or sheave diameter, the pull tension, how many times per shift the cable is moved, what fluids it meets, and whether it is dragged over rock or run on a cable handler. Voltcore states minimum bending radius, recommended pulling tension and sheath tear strength per size, because those numbers predict replacement intervals far better than a current rating does.
MT 818 is a series of parts covering mining cable by type and voltage grade: power cable, flexible trailing cable, screened cable for shearers and drilling machines, and control and communication cable. It fixes conductor form, insulation thickness, core arrangement including the earth and pilot cores, and sheath thickness. MT 386 is the companion test method for flame propagation and antistatic surface resistance.
When the specification crosses languages, translate the construction rather than the code. State the voltage grade, the core arrangement including earth and pilot cores, whether power cores are screened and at what braid coverage, the insulation and sheath compounds, and the flame and antistatic standard. Voltcore quotes against that description and references the corresponding MT 818 part number on the datasheet.
Mining cable is not sold by phase conductor alone. MT 818 sizes the earth core relative to the phase conductors so that a fault at the far end of a face still trips the protection, and it calls for pilot or control cores where the machine needs earth-monitoring or remote control. Getting this wrong shows up as a protection setting that will not reach far enough, not as a cable that fails.
Order the arrangement explicitly: three power cores plus one earth core, plus two or three pilot cores at 2.5, 4 or 6 mm², laid at the centre of the assembly where crush loads are lowest. Where the machine uses pilot-core monitoring, confirm the loop resistance of the pilot circuit against the relay's trip threshold, because a long face can add enough resistance to prevent a trip.
Include cross-section, core count, voltage grade, route length and installation method — those five determine price more than anything else on the page.
