MVV-0.66/1.14kV
MVV / MVV22 PVC Insulated Mining Power Cable to MT 818
Fixed-installation mine power cable with the earth core sized by MT 818 rather than by guesswork.
MVV is the fixed-installation power cable of a coal mine: feeder runs along roadways, connections to section substations, and supplies to pumps and ventilation fans underground. It is PVC insulated and sheathed at 0.66/1.14 kV, built in 3+1, 3+2 and 4-core arrangements where the earth core is not an afterthought but a sized conductor set by MT 818. MVV22 adds double steel tape armour where the route is exposed to roof fall, passing machinery or burial in the mine floor.
Underground conditions shape the construction. The sheath must pass the MT 386 flame and antistatic test, the cable is cleated along rib sides where it can be struck, and the route is often damp and acidic. Voltcore builds MVV with a Class 5 flexible conductor rather than Class 2, so jointing in a confined roadway is practical, and marks each drum with the MT 818 part reference, voltage grade and metre marking that a mine inspection regime asks to see.

Engineering characteristics
- Class 5 flexible conductor and 6 × OD bending radius make jointing practical in a roadway with limited working space.
- Earth and monitoring cores sized by MT 818 rather than matched to the phase, keeping fault-loop impedance inside the mine's protection settings.
- PVC sheath compounded to pass MT 386: bunched flame propagation plus the antistatic surface resistance requirement for gassy atmospheres.
- MVV22 double steel tape armour resists roof fall debris, impact from passing machinery and crushing at floor level.
- 70 °C conductor rating with insulation thickness stepped from 1.4 mm to 2.2 mm across the range, giving margin on 1.14 kV circuits.
- Core identification and printed metre marking follow the inspection schedule, so remaining drum length can be recorded at the face.
- Halogen-free bedding and sheath option for escapeways and intake airways where smoke matters.

MVV / MVV22 Mining Power Cable — frequently asked questions
What does MT 818 cover, and will it satisfy an overseas mine?
MT 818 is the Chinese coal industry series covering mining cable by type and voltage grade: construction, dimensions, tests and core arrangements, with MT 386 for flame and antistatic behaviour. Overseas mines often need their own national approval. Voltcore supplies the full MT 818 test file, dimensions and compound identification so the mine's engineer or a local approving body can assess the construction directly.
Why is the earth core smaller than the phase cores?
MT 818 sizes the earth core for the fault current it must carry for the clearing time of the protection, not to match the phase. At 3 × 25 + 1 × 16 the earth is 16 mm² because that is what the fault-loop calculation requires. Specifying an equal earth core adds weight and cost without improving the trip, unless a longer face or a different protection setting demands it.
Can MVV be used on a moving machine?
No. MVV is a fixed-installation cable cleated along a roadway or buried in the floor. A machine that moves — shearer, roadheader, shuttle car — needs a rubber-sheathed flexible trailing cable such as MY, MYP or MCP, whose conductor stranding, insulation and sheath are designed for repeated flexing and dragging.
What bending radius applies, and can it be installed in cold conditions?
Six times overall diameter for MVV and twelve times for the armoured MVV22. Installation should not be attempted below 0 °C without pre-heating the drum, because PVC stiffens and a cold bend can crack the sheath. For shaft work in winter, Voltcore can supply a low-temperature sheath grade rated for installation down to -10 °C.
