YZ-300/500V
YZ Medium-Duty Rubber Flexible Cable, 300/500 V
The 300/500 V rubber cord that follows a portable tool around a workshop and survives being trodden on.
YZ is the medium-duty member of the Chinese rubber cable family, rated 300/500 V and built for equipment that is carried rather than dragged. The sheath is thinner than a YC sheath, the construction is lighter, and the cost per metre is lower. For a hand drill, a site floodlight or a small pump, that is the correct trade: the cable has to bend in the hand and coil into a box at the end of the shift.
The construction is otherwise the same family as YC: Class 5 flexible copper to IEC 60228, an EPR-type insulation, a binder over the laid-up cores, and a rubber sheath. Voltcore produces YZ in 2 to 5 cores from 1.5 mm² to 35 mm² and selects the sheath compound on the same oil-versus-weather basis. Where a YZ cord will meet cutting oil on a machine, CPE is the compound to name.

Engineering characteristics
- 300/500 V rating for portable equipment and light site distribution, in 2 to 5 cores.
- A 1.2–1.7 mm sheath keeps the cable light enough to coil at the end of a shift without spring.
- EPR insulation stays flexible down to −15 °C, which a PVC compound does not.
- Class 5 copper to IEC 60228 gives the bend life a hand-held tool lead needs.
- Minimum bending radius of 6 × overall diameter on mobile duty, tabulated per size.
- CPE and PCP sheath options, so one construction serves an oily workshop and a dry one.
- Resistance tabulated per size, which is what a voltage-drop check on a long 230 V extension needs.
Typical applications
- Portable power tools, sanders, drills and saws
- Hand-held site lighting and inspection lamps
- Small pumps, fans and portable compressors
- Domestic and commercial portable extension leads
- Light stage and studio equipment cabling
- Appliance and equipment supply cords under OEM supply
Ordering options
- 2 to 5 cores, 1.5–35 mm²
- PCP sheath for general duty, or CPE for oil-contact duty
- Black sheath as standard; coloured sheaths available on volume
- Tinned copper conductor for humid or coastal applications
- 100 m coils, cut lengths, or private-label printing

YZ Medium-Duty Rubber Flexible Cable 300/500 V — frequently asked questions
When should I use YZ instead of YC?
When the load is light and the cable is carried rather than dragged. YZ is 300/500 V with a thinner, lighter sheath, intended for portable tools and equipment up to 35 mm². YC is 450/750 V with a sheath up to 2.4 mm for site abuse. If the cable lies on a construction floor under traffic, YC is the right call.
Can YZ carry the same current as YC of the same size?
Close to it, but not identical. The current rating depends on the cross-section and the ambient conditions, and the thinner YZ sheath sheds slightly less heat. For the same 4 mm² three-core at 30 °C the difference is small, but on a long run at full load the heavier construction is the safer choice, and Voltcore tabulates both.
Is YZ suitable for outdoor use?
For temporary outdoor use, yes, particularly with a PCP sheath, which resists ozone and weather. For permanent outdoor installation it is the wrong product: YZ carries no UV-rated heavy sheath and no mechanical protection. A permanent outdoor run should use YCW or H07RN-F, or a power cable in a duct.
What lengths and packing do you supply?
YZ is normally supplied in 100 m coils, in cut lengths, or on wooden drums for the larger sizes. The standard minimum order is 500 m per size, with a 15–25 working day lead time from Yixing. Samples up to 5 m are free, which is worth using before you commit a volume order to a compound you have not handled.
