Marine Flame Retardant Low Smoke Control & Instrumentation Cable
Screened control and instrumentation cable that keeps signal integrity beside power runs.
Control and instrumentation cable on a ship carries the signals that keep machinery under control: alarm and monitoring loops, valve and pump commands, navigation and communication interfaces. IEC 60092-376 covers these cables at 150/250 V, and Voltcore also supplies 0.6/1 kV versions where control circuits share a voltage level with power. The build is stranded tinned copper, halogen-free insulation and sheath, and a screen on each pair or over the whole assembly.
Cross-talk is the practical problem, not current capacity. A control cable bundled beside a 95 mm² power cable picks up enough interference to trigger false alarms, so the screen and its drain wire matter more than the conductor size. Voltcore supplies individual pair screens for analogue 4–20 mA loops and a collective screen for digital signals, with braid coverage and drain wire size stated on the datasheet and SHF2 sheath as standard.

Engineering characteristics
- Individual pair screening with a tinned drain wire keeps 4–20 mA analogue loops clean where they share a tray with power cable.
- Collective tinned copper braid at 80% coverage suits digital and communication circuits where one screen over the bundle is enough.
- SHF2 halogen-free thermosetting sheath to IEC 60092-359 with acid gas not above 5 mg/g and transmittance not below 60%.
- Stranded tinned copper keeps crimped and spring-terminal connections stable in salt-laden humidity.
- Bunched flame retardance to IEC 60332-3-22 category A, the category shipbuilding specifications normally cite for grouped runs.
- Core identification by printed number plus colour, so a 24-core loop can be terminated without a continuity sweep.
- Supplied from 2 to 37 cores in 0.75 to 2.5 mm², covering alarm, monitoring, valve control and navigation interfaces.
Typical applications

Marine Flame Retardant Low Smoke Control Cable — frequently asked questions
Do I need individual pair screens or one collective screen?
Individual screens for analogue 4–20 mA loops and where pairs carry different signal types, because they stop one loop coupling into another. A collective screen is enough for digital buses and switching circuits. Where the cable runs beside variable-speed drive output, specify both: pair screens plus an overall braid.
Can control cable share a tray with power cable?
Yes, with segregation to the applicable installation rules and with screened cable. Keep analogue and digital circuits apart, run the shortest parallel length possible and cross power cables at right angles. Earth the drain wire at one end only, normally the panel end, so that a screen does not become a path for circulating current.
Do you supply 150/250 V instrumentation cable to IEC 60092-376?
Yes, in 0.75 mm² and 1 mm² with individually screened pairs or triples and an overall braid. Instrumentation versions to the NEK 606 S101 to S104 types, with mud-resistant SHF2 sheath, are supplied for offshore modules on request.
What conductor size should I use on a long alarm loop?
Work from loop resistance rather than current. 0.75 mm² is fine up to roughly 80 m; beyond about 100 m move to 1.5 mm² and check the total loop resistance against the monitoring input threshold, because a marginal loop gives intermittent alarms that are hard to trace.
